Dance education at Cornish has been the root of the college since its inception. The summer dance program is a reflection of the college’s commitment to rigorous and cutting edge dance practices. Over the course of 4-weeks, students will have a chance to explore a range of dance techniques and creative process practices. This morning pre-college intensive offers physical training, conditioning, and experimental explorations in composition, choreography, and improvisation. This program is intended to offer students foundational training and skills that will foster their development as professional dancers.
Fridays are dedicated to audition preparation for college programs. On the fourth Friday, parents and guests will be invited to an informal performance.
This course will require an audition for placement into the program. A minimum of four years' study is recommended prior to attending this course.
Students are encouraged to select up to 2 afternoon electives in any discipline. These electives are open to all students and do not require placement.
Afternoon electives can be chosen to build an all-day, 4-week experience with morning foundation courses, or be taken as a free-standing class. All electives run either Monday & Wednesday, or Tuesday & Thursday from 1-4 from July 10 to August 5. Upon registration, choose one foundation course and 2 electives. Electives can be mixed and matched, but must choose one M/W and one T/Th.
